Tips for Visiting the Roman Colosseum
If you’re headed to the Colosseum anytime soon, chances are you will run into a few issues. There is normally a crowd and sometimes the ticketing can be a little confusing. That being said, it is a fantastic place to visit and one of the coolest places I’ve ever been lucky enough to explore.

Make sure to book tickets ahead of time! Many sites in Rome sell out of tickets for the day so if you have a specific day you want to visit make sure you book beforehand. Plus, buying tickets ahead of time will allow you to skip the long lines of people waiting to purchase tickets!

Double check what ticket you purchase! There are different levels of access (arena, underground, nighttime) that you can purchase. There are also guided tours and audio tours available. Make sure you are buying the correct one for you!
Avoid crowds as best you can. It’s one of the most famous landmarks. There is going to be a crowd. However, use Avoid-Crowds to see how crowded it is forecasted to be and adjust your timing if possible!
Bring sensible shoes! The Colosseum is old. There is dust and some places aren’t the best for walking on. Definitely bring suitable walking shoes!
Leave large bags at your hotel. You will be denied entry if you have oversized items with you!
