Top 4 Sites to See in Colorado Springs, CO
Are you ready to embark on an adventure to the beautiful city of Colorado Springs? Well, you should be, because I'm about to spill the beans on the top 4 sites you absolutely cannot miss in this picturesque place. Let's dive into the wild, wild west of Colorado Springs!
1. Garden of the Gods
First up is Garden of the Gods, and I’m not trying to be facetious when I say this place rocks (literally). Seriously, these red rocks are so stunning that they make your Instagram feed look like child's play. This park is free to enter and you can drive through it as well as stop to hike, take photos, etc. I highly recommend stopping at the Visitor Center first so that you can grab a map and have a general idea of where you want to stop. We went on a weekday, around mid-day, and it was relatively busy - so I’m sure it becomes more so on weekends. Make sure you plan ahead and if you do not want a lot of people in your photos, go early!
2. Pikes Peak
Next up, Pikes Peak. If you've ever wondered what it's like to be on top of the world, this is your chance. You can either hike to the summit, drive, or take the Pikes Peak Cog Railway (if sweating isn't your thing). While we did not go up it this trip, I’ve both driven up to the Peak and taken the Railway. The Railway will cost you between $60-$70, while driving yourself will cost between $10-$50, depending on what time of year you go and how many people you have with. Regardless, the view is breathtaking, and the altitude might leave you breathless, too!
3. The United States Air Force Academy
I firmly believe a trip to Colorado Springs is not complete without soaring to visit the US Air Force Academy! Not only does it have stunning views surrounding its campus, but it’s a great reminder of the heroes that train there and the sacrifices they have made for their country. Of course, the iconic Cadet Chapel is always appealing, however, it is currently under construction (estimated to be finished in 2027), so the only photos available right now are ones taken outside of the building.
The Academy is free to enter, however you will be screened upon arrival and all adults in your vehicle will need to show ID. There are many great viewing points throughout the campus that you can stop at and take photos.
4. U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Museum
12 galleries, interactive exhibits, memorabilia from around the world. If you even like sports just a little bit, you have to visit this museum! One of Colorado Springs’ newest attractions, this museum was completed in 2020 and is one of the most enticing museums I’ve experienced. Admission fee is $20 and you’ll be given an interactive ticket that you can “register” and use to discover more about the exhibits throughout the museum.
